New City Church, a plant in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was launched on Sunday, September 9. Approximately 130 participated in the first worship service, which was held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel. Organizing Pastor Dr. Rodger Woodworth began a preaching series on Ephesians entitled “God’s Mission Has A Church.” Rodger said, “It was a great night of praise, prayer and proclamation. We look forward to being a part of God’s mission in downtown Pittsburgh.” (photo right: Greg and Rebecca Sparks (worship leaders), Rodger Woodworth (pastor), Michael Thornhill (pastoral assistant for campus ministry)
New City Church is being organized in partnership with Memorial Park Presbyterian Church, Allison Park, Pennsylvania, the Presbytery of the Alleghenies, and the Coalition for Christian Outreach. Dean Weaver, senior pastor of Memorial Park said, “We are so grateful to be in partnership with the Presbytery of the Alleghenies and to be part of the EPC. The emphasis on church planting and the Great Commission is our shared ‘missional DNA.’”
