A Prayer for Sunday

While I do my best to pray for you individually during the week, on Saturdays, I remember you collectively to the Lord as you prepare to lead your congregations in worship.  The following is the type of prayer I pray for you all:

Most gracious and loving heavenly Father, I thank you for the blessing and the privilege it is to pray for my colleagues in ministry on this day.  As they prepare to lead your people in worship tomorrow I ask that you would bless them and their preparation.  That you will use them in such a way that the time of worship in their churches will be an encounter, a meaningful encounter with you in all your fullness: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.

As they lead worship, read Scripture, lead singing, preach your Word and pray, I ask that you would anoint them with grace, goodness, love and power of your Holy Spirit: that you would not just be present, but you would be present in power, life-changing power (Ephesians 1.19).  That your power would touch and change believers because they have encountered you, and in that encounter, they will become more like Jesus Christ, and will want to be more like their Savior and Lord (Romans 8.29).  That by Your power those who enter that time of worship who are not yet believers will depart that time changed, a new creation in Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5.17).  That by the grace, goodness and love that is your power you would transform your people and your church to be light, light shining in the darkness that is our world today.

I pray this in the name of the one who loves us, who gave His very life for us, and who reigns in glory at this very moment, King of kings and Lord of lords, Christ our Savior, Christ our Lord. Amen.
