Oklahoma Tornado Relief Update

In response to the devastating tornado that hit Moore, OK on May 20, on May 21 the Committee on Administration created the Oklahoma Tornado disaster relief fund. To date, $16,240 has been received into this fund. All funds collected will be sent to support EPC churches directly engaged in relief efforts in Moore.

Three churches engaged in this relief effort are Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Wichita, KS, New Creation Church, Joplin, MO and Kirk of the Hills, Tulsa, OK.

Eastminster has scheduled two day-trips to deliver supplies on Saturday, June 8, and Saturday, June 15. On May 26, ruling elder Billy Boyle told the Eastminster congregation, “We know we serve a God who is close to the brokenhearted, and is strong and mighty even in the midst of tragedy. We pray that the gospel of Jesus would be proclaimed and those affected by the tornado would have the hope and peace that comes only through knowing him.”

New Creation pastor Cliff Mansley visited Moore May 21 and 22. He wrote, “Looking at the scene of devastation brought back a flood of sad memories from the tornado which shredded our community. I wanted to be somewhere else… anywhere else! But then I remembered how powerfully God poured out his love on Joplin after the tornado and I believed with all of my heart that He would do the same for Moore.” Click here for Cliff’s most recent report to the General Assembly Office and contact information.

At Kirk of the Hills, relief service currently focuses on helping with clean-up. Fourteen person Disaster Relief Teams are being filled for May 31 as well as June 1, 8, 11, 13, 15 and 17.
