Presbytery of the Southeast Report

 

Approximately 100 commissioners, guests and observers attended the February 3-4 meeting of Southeast Presbytery, which met at Valleybrook Presbyterian Church in Hixson, Tennessee. Adel Thalos is the pastor of the host church. Highlights of the meeting included:

  • The Presbytery received two churches and three pastors through Book of Government 5-5. Ministerial Committee Chair Jeff Chadwick and Church Resource Committee Chair Larry Newman coordinated the interview, examination and reception of the pastors and sessions of Woodland Presbyterian Church (Memphis, TN) and First Evangelical Presbyterian Church (Humboldt, TN). Ruling elders from the two incoming churches reported they enjoyed a wonderful visit from the Southeast committees January 27-28. They added they were “thrilled to be in Southeast, which has given us so much love and encouragement.” Woodland pastors Matt Miller and Pam Haley and Humboldt pastor Missy DeBerry were all examined and received on Saturday morning.
  • Daniel Bush, who preached on Saturday morning, was examined and received as Commissioned Pastor of New Beginning EPC, Erlanger, Kentucky. He succeeds Dr. Steven Riser, who retired as pastor in 2011.
  • Grady Davidson, pastor of Lookout Valley Presbyterian, Chattanooga Tennessee preached from Psalm 3 at the Friday night worship service.
  • In response to comments about the warm and generous spirit of the meeting, Stated Clerk Jerry Clothier said, “We do our work and we love each other.
